Autism Class Opening November 2024

Autism Class: Opening November 2024

We are proud to announce the opening of our first Autism Class in November 2024, marking an important addition to our school's inclusive educational environment. This dedicated class will provide students with a tailored and nurturing space where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally, all while being part of the broader school community.

Our approach focuses on the holistic development of each student, ensuring they can reach their full potential in a setting that meets their individual needs. Alongside personalised learning within the Autism Class, students will have opportunities to participate in mainstream classes and activities that align with their strengths, interests, and abilities.

The first class will welcome six students across first to sixth year, with plans to expand by opening a second class in September 2025.

Recognising the uniqueness of each learner, we work closely with students, their families, and the wider school community to develop individualised Student Support Plans. These plans, guided by the Education for Persons with Special Needs Act (EPSEN, 2004), ensure that every student receives the support and accommodations they need to thrive.

Students attached to the Autism Class will have full access to a broad range of subjects at both Junior and Senior Cycle levels, allowing them to pursue their academic interests and goals. In addition, we offer a variety of practical, non-exam subjects designed to develop essential life skills and specific work-related competencies, equipping students for success beyond school.

Our commitment is to create an inclusive, caring, and dynamic learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered to achieve their best.
