Athletics

Athletics in Templeogue College takes place every Monday afternoon from 3.45 to 4.45 p.m.

In recent years Templeogue College has developed a fine reputation in athletics. Templeogue students Paul Whelan, Joshua Essuman, Conor O’Keeffe, Mitchell Byrne, Dylan Keegan, Simon Essuman, Shola Edodo and Richard Keogh have all represented Ireland at underage international level and several more have feature on Leinster squads. This year we also send our congratulations to current third year student Bobby Amadi who recently donned the Irish vest for the first time at the SIAB schools combined event international in Glasgow where he was a proud member of the silver medal winning Irish team.

However, while the school is proud of these success the emphasis on Monday afternoons is on participation. Students of all year groups and standards are welcome. Every year a huge mix of students participate from serious athletes who aspire to places on international teams to those who just want the challenge of finishing a cross country race. From September to February the school team take part in cross country events around the city while the focus shifts to track and field from March onwards.

Athletics is organised by Ms Foynes and Ms Byrne but could not happen without the team of Transition Year athletics mentors who encourage and motivate the younger students. This year our athletics mentors are Peter Farrell, Evan Mackey, Jack Nolan, Robert Orr and Tommy Orr.

Any student who wants to get a bit fitter or even just wants to meet a few new people in school will find a sociable group on the field or in the hall on a Monday afternoon. Come along and join us!
