Poetry Aloud

Do you love poetry? Do you want to bring words to life through performance? Poetry Aloud is a competition celebrating the beauty of spoken poetry. It is an annual poetry speaking competition open to all post-primary students on the island of Ireland. Organised by the National Library of Ireland and Poetry Ireland, and supported by University College Cork, the competition celebrates the art of poetry recitation (saying a poem from memory). Participants compete in three categories: Junior (1st & 2nd Year), Intermediate (3rd & TY), and Senior (5th & 6th Year).

The competition runs from September to December, with the first round typically conducted virtually – students record their performance and submit online. For more information, including guidelines and entry details, visit the National Library of Ireland's Poetry Aloud page or Poetry Ireland: Poetry Aloud | National Library of Ireland

Taking part in this competition helps to develop confidence, improve your speaking skills and encourages you to explore powerful poems! Keep an eye on Teams and Instagram for updates regarding this competition and how you can take part.
