The Chess Club provides a space for students to socialize, engage in friendly competition, and improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Over the course of the year, we saw students who had never played before join and quickly develop a passion for the game. We hope to see this trend continue over the coming years, and we encourage more students to take up the game of chess.

📜 HISTORY OF CHESS AT TEMPLEOGUE COLLEGE
Chess has, no doubt, been played at Templeogue College throughout the decades but in the last few years there has been somewhat of a resurrection within the school and it has become very popular among our students. Mr Connor set up a Chess Club at the start of the 2021/2022 academic year and the school study area has been packed every week since with students battling it out on the boards with some competing to be crowned Templeogue College Chess Champion in our annual internal league.
Such was the appetite from the students to play chess games not just for fun but in a competitive format that the idea to create a Schools Chess Tournament arose. So Templeogue College founded the ‘Libermann Chess Cup’ in 2021, a competition for South Dublin Schools played out in a yearly league format.
Since then Templeogue College have won this cup in 2022 and 2023. However, this year there will be a new name on the cup with Presentation CC Terenure winning the Libermann Cup. The competition has grown and next year it is envisioned to have 10 Dublin schools competing.
Chess Club would like to welcome new members in the new academic year. We welcome all students so it does not matter what year group you are in or how good you are at chess.
