Templeogue College Past Pupils Union acts as a link between past pupils and current pupils of Templeogue College. It acts as a social forum where the extensive successes of past pupils may be shared by the wider college community. Various fundraising activities are conducted throughout the year most, but the most notable event is the annual dinner held in May.
The PPU is a vibrant community of former classmates and friends. It facilitates events to enable and maintain social and professional ties between alumni. Also, it promotes the Spiritan education ethos and values which forms the character of the Templeogue College family.
The PPU has been aligned with the College and collaborated on such important projects as Missionary initiatives, the development of the Memorial Garden in the College grounds, career talks with Leaving Certificate students and annual fundraising events. The PPU also hosts an annual memorial mass in November for recently deceased past pupils.
The PPU was established in 1987. The College had not long passed the 20-year anniversary of 1966 and the first generation of past students were beginning to emerge as leaders in society, being cited in printed media across the gamut of business, academia, sports, arts, media and entertainment and public service. Mr. John Murphy and Mr. Ray Kennedy booked the ballroom in the Burlington Hotel for the 27th of February in 1988. Communication of the inaugural Templeogue College PPU Dinner was made by letter to each past student’s home address. The roll of the dice paid off, the attendance of 165 exceeded expectations and the event was a huge success.
The PPU has since had huge success in reuniting past students, fostering pride in the college and in supporting past pupils through the Benevolent fund. The digital age has allowed the TCU to advance on social media platforms; LinkedIn and Facebook have greatly assisted with connecting the TCU community across the globe. The PPU committee also represents past students at various events throughout the year.
All Templeogue College past students are invited to join the PPU and to keep up to date with the PPU through social media. The Union follows the Templeogue College style and tradition of promoting collegial loyalty and the virtue of giving something back. Support from past students and attendance at TCU events help both the College and support past pupils and their dependents who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
Our new president Daniel Ryan (Class of 2023) will enable the PPU’s transition of including more of the younger cohort of past pupils. We hope to see the PPU continue to flourish and grow over the coming years.
