Level 2 Learning Programme

Level 2 Learning Programme (L2LP)

The Level 2 Learning Programme (L2LP) have been designed for students with a high moderate to low mild general learning disability or those who may not be able to access the Junior Cycle curriculum in full.

These students will benefit from an L2LP as it purposely focuses on development and learning in such areas as: elementary literacy and numeracy, language and communication, mobility and leisure skills, motor-coordination and social and personal development.

It is envisaged that, as far as possible, the students under consideration here who are in mainstream settings will undertake their L2LPs in mainstream classes. Of course, there may be occasions when small group or one-to-one teaching is more appropriate. Occasionally, there may be a student undertaking L2LPs for whom recognition of learning in one or two subjects at Level 3 is also accessible.

Programme Structure

The Level 2 Learning Programme (L2LP) comprises five Priority Learning Units and two Short Courses. The PLU’s studied are:

  1. Literacy and Communications

  1. Numeracy

  1. Personal Care

  1. Living in the Community

  1. Preparing for Work

The L2LP is a highly individualised programme that focuses on active participation, practical tasks, and personal development. Students are assessed through portfolio work and classroom-based assessments, ensuring that progress is measured in a meaningful and supportive way.
