Music
The Templeogue College Music Department strives to define and refine the individual talents of our students by providing a broad range of opportunities offered by the implementation of a full and varied curriculum. We endeavour to encourage our students to appreciate and apply music's enormous force for the enrichment of society and intercultural understanding.
The department aims to cultivate a supportive learning environment by actively promoting a climate of respect for personal and cultural differences, and by offering a range of services and activities to support the needs of the student musicians who come to us from around the world.
The Department encourages active and enjoyable participation in a wide range of musical activities, from solo performance to chamber ensembles, wind bands, jazz band, traditional music, and pop/rock groups. Music students are encouraged to commit to their involvement in the co-curricular music programmes throughout their time in the school, notably the college’s wind ensemble.
The Music Department prepares students for entrance to state exams at both Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate level. It endeavours to present TY students with a programme to develop musical appreciation and performance in line with the general aims of the TY programme and encourage senior cycle uptake.
The Music Department also seeks to develop cross-curricular links with other departments, including the various language departments, the Transition Year programme, the PE department, the modern language department, the physics department and the RE/Pastoral Care Department.
The actions undertaken by the music department on a daily basis are subtle, refined and yet complex. They aim to empower all the people connected with the department to use the power of music to make their own lives, the lives of other members of the school community, and the lives of those beyond the school community, brighter, better and more musical.
