Business Studies

Junior Cycle Business Studies introduces students to the world of business, economics, and personal finance. It helps them understand how businesses operate, how economic decisions are made, and how to manage their own resources responsibly. Through practical and real-life contexts, students learn valuable skills such as decision-making, budgeting, enterprise, and critical thinking.

Assessment in Junior Cycle Business Studies focuses on both the development of key skills and the application of knowledge. It includes:

  • Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs):
Students complete two CBAs during the course:

    1. CBA 1 – Business in Action (2nd Year): A group-based project where students research and develop a business idea or explore an enterprise-related topic, showcasing teamwork and innovation.

    2. CBA 2 – Presentation (3rd Year): An individual presentation based on a business-related topic chosen by the student, demonstrating their ability to research, communicate, and reflect.

  • Final Examination
At the end of third year, students sit a written exam set by the State Examinations Commission (SEC). The exam includes short and long-answer questions, requiring students to apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios.

This course helps students become informed, responsible, and enterprising citizens, laying the foundation for further study in business, economics, and related areas.
