Junior Cycle Science at Templeogue College
The Junior Cycle Science curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and equip students with essential scientific knowledge and skills. Science is all around us, from the air we breathe to the technology we use daily. Through hands-on experiments, engaging lessons, and real-world applications, our students develop an appreciation for the natural world and an understanding of how science impacts their lives.
Junior Cycle Science provides students with a broad and balanced understanding of scientific concepts across four key areas:
- Biology – Exploring living things, from cells to ecosystems, and understanding human health and genetics.
- Chemistry – Investigating the properties and interactions of substances that make up our world.
- Physics – Learning about forces, energy, electricity, and how they shape the universe.
- Earth and Space – Examining our planet, the solar system, and environmental sustainability.
The course is designed to be engaging and interactive, with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. Students are encouraged to develop their investigative skills, work collaboratively, and apply their knowledge to solve problems in innovative ways.
Science is an important aspect of the school curriculum as it promotes and develops critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. It also encourages curiosity and innovation and paves the way for students to select a science subject at Senior Cycle and prepare them for their future.
